Updated: Feb 28, 2022

A wedding day does not carry itself. You need someone who will make sure things run smoothly and take charge if activities are running behind schedule. Here’s where the all-important master/mistress of ceremonies comes into play at your destination wedding in Goa. So how do you choose the perfect MC? Read on!

TO KNOW OR NOT TO KNOW

If there’s a family member or friend who is great at public speaking and knows both of you well, you can ask if they would like to act as an MC for your destination wedding in Goa. It lends a personal touch to your celebration. However, remember that this is a big responsibility - they can’t drink too much, go off and dance or get side-tracked catching up with other friends and family. Avoid pressuring them into it and be prepared for them to say no. It is always advisable to draw up a list of options during your wedding planning in Goa.

THE TYPE OF EVENT

You may want the same MC for all of your wedding events or a different one for some, depending on the style. Perhaps you’re looking for a relaxed, easy-going, fun vibe at the sangeet and an extremely formal tone to your reception. Check if the MC can nail both styles.

CAN THEY ENTERTAIN

MCs need to keep the audience entertained through the lulls in the celebrations. Humour is a great way to do this, but you’ll need to ensure the jokes don’t cross boundaries that you draw. Make sure to tell them if there are any sensitive topics they should avoid. MCs can also keep up spirits with games, spot prizes, and so on, so it’s a good idea to understand how they work.

DO THEY MATCH YOU

Their style should match yours as a couple. Do you like banter, jokes, and lots of laughter? Are you comfortable with light ribbing or participating in surprise couple games? Or do you prefer a composed, prim and dignified tone? An MC should match your personality as a couple so their script reflects you well to your guests.

CONFIDENCE & ORGANISATION

Choose an MC who is confident in front of large crowds but keeps the spotlight on the bride and groom. It’s important they don’t steal your thunder at your destination wedding in Goa. In addition, they should be able to ensure your wedding day stays on track and troubleshoot as necessary. Good organisation skills mean they can deal with vendors, guests, and staff while you enjoy your day. Make sure they have a list of all the important contact numbers for the day.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

This is a focal point both on your end and on the part of the MC. You should clearly communicate your requirements and boundaries to the MC well before your big day. A face-to-face meeting helps convey these needs well, and looking through some of their video samples will help pinpoint the best MC for the job. Your chosen MC should also be able to communicate well with guests and vendors to diffuse any untoward situation that may arise.
