WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PRE-WEDDING HAIRCUT WAS BOTCHED

Updated: May 26, 2021

So you went down the experimental road and had your hair cut by that friend of a friend of a friend. And now you hate it. With just a few weeks to go until your destination wedding in Goa, it can seem like melting into the carpet is the only way out of it. But we’ve got your back. Here are a few ways to deal with this tressy disaster.

LEAVE IT FOR A BIT

If your jaw dropped in shock during the unveil, hold your fire. There’s a chance it may not be as bad as it looks. Hair can take up to a week to adjust and settle after a couple of washes. Don’t immediately ask for opinions from friends and family. Give your hair and yourself time. If it’s cut unevenly or you still hate it after a week, you can get it fixed.

DON’T DIY IT

Whatever you do, the few weeks pre-wedding is not the time for DIYs. If you don’t have professional training, there’s a high chance you’ll make it worse - even if it’s something as simple as a fringe that you think is too long or face-framing layers that seem uneven. Just note down what you don’t like and get an expert on the job.

SPEAK TO A STYLIST

Go to your personal stylist if you have one - they know your hair and what would suit you best. If you’re already wedding planning in Goa, look up noteworthy hairstylists in the sunshine state. Tell them what the look you were going for and what you’re hoping to achieve for your destination wedding in Goa. A variety of reference images will help, and you can trust a good stylist to know which of those will look best on you.

GET HELP

If there are only a few days to go and you’re really into the long hair look or the highlights weren’t exactly as you pictured them, think about extensions. A good hairstylist in Goa can expertly make them blend in with your natural tresses. Clip-in extensions are the quickest and most affordable, but there are options for pre-bonded, tape-ins and weave-ins as well. If you don’t want to bother with the care that comes with hair extensions, find a wig you like.

GET AN UP-DO

Updos are a great way to conceal a botched haircut. There are lots of pins, twists, curls and sometimes even headgear involved that can hide imperfections in your haircut. Check with popular wedding stylists about the options that will suit your face, outfit and hair type.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

Your stylist will be able to offer you options for the original look you were going for. You can try going shorter - pixie cuts are edgy and there are myriad styles you can opt for with shoulder-length hair. A few adjustments such as thinning out your hair or adding layers can right a wrong with a few snips. Quality styling, no matter the length of your hair, can be a breath of fresh air at your destination wedding in Goa.
